Featured Church - Wycliffe Baptist Church Parsons Heath Colchester

Wycliffe Baptist Church Parsons
Heath ColchesterThree years ago we welcomed into the pastorate George Balfor as part time minister who has done a wonderful job of building up the fellowship in terms of both numbers and spiritual fervour.

Following his retirement we spent a year looking at what God wanted us to do to further His work here.  We concluded that given our size and limited resources we should try to find a pastor in training who would be able to continue the ministry.

Just over a year later on Saturday 17th February 2007 God made it possible for us to officially welcome Steve Rudge as our Pastor and his wife Laurinda.  This service was supported by some of the fellowship of Norwich Baptist Church, Steve’s sending church, and a wonderful time was had by all.

The weekly work here consists of a Wednesday Fellowship, Mums & Toddlers, Prayer Meeting, Housegroup & Sunday worship ably led most Sundays by our trio of musicians.  We hold a monthly Saturday morning outreach with coffee, biscuits & a listening ear.

Our premises are also used by local councillors as a ‘surgery’, Parsons Heath Residents Association and a Weight Watchers group.

The present building has been on this site for well over a hundred years and consists of the sanctuary, kitchen, hall and separate wooden hut.

The buildings are now showing their age and we shall need to spend a large sum of money on repairs and to bring it up to the present legislative standards required for a building used by the local community.  So we will definitely be getting on our bikes in September to Ride & Stride!

We aim to use our buildings at Wycliffe as a base, in the words of John Wesley to:   “Do all the good we can, by all the means we can, in all the ways we can, in all the places we can, at all the times we can, to all the people we can, for as long as we can”
