AGM and 2017 Gepp Lecture
Our speaker in 2017 will be Dr John Goodall, architectural editor of Country Life and author of Parish Church Treasures. St Mary's Church, Saffron Walden 8.15 pm, following the Annual General Meeting at 7.15 and refreshments from 7.45. Open to members and non-members; admission free. Wednesday 7th June

Invitation to the Garden at Peacocks, Margaretting, from 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm
By kind permission of Mr and Mrs Phil Torr, an exclusive visit to the spectacular garden at Peacocks, Margaretting CM4 9HY. This is a varied five-acre garden with mature native and specimen trees surrounding a Regency house. Modern sculptures and topiary create a wonderful blend of formal and informal spaces. The walled garden, long herbaceous/mixed border, vegetable garden, lily lake, woodland walk, orchard, traditionally managed wildflower meadow and sunken dell provide many elegant and charming views. Mr Torr has kindly offered to lead garden tours at 2.15 pm and 3.30 pm. Tea and homemade cakes. Mainly accessible to wheelchairs, with grass paths and some steps. Access to lavatory facilities limited. Tickets must be applied for in advance. Autumn Study Day
We will be visiting four interesting medieval churches, each one in an attractive rural setting. Led by Dr Christopher Starr the Study Day will visit Fobbing, Corringham, Horndon-on-the-Hill and North Ockendon. The cost will be £7 for members and £10 for non-members. All are welcome. Thursday 12th October

Christmas Gift Fair
Hylands House, Chelmsford, 10am- 3pm. Entrance £5, including coffee and biscuits, with light lunches and wine available. Come and meet your friends, have coffee and buy unusual and eclectic Christmas presents in the beautiful surroundings of Hylands House, Chelmsford. We have many new stalls this year, plus some old favourites! Fair to be opened by Dave Monk of BBC Essex at 10am.

Galliard Trio
The Friends of Essex Churches Trust Events Committee warmly invite you to an evening of Mozart, Handel, Bach, Shostakovich and more, at All Saints’ Church, Rettendon, on Saturday 17 March at 7.00 pm, by kind permission of the Vicar, Revd Richard Jordan, and the Churchwardens, Jane Fallows and Gale Fogg. The Galliard Trio will be performing for us; playing flute, oboe, cor anglais, harpsicord and bassoon. The music will transport us through the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in what promises to be a stimulating and eclectic concert in this very beautiful village church. The performance will be followed by a drinks reception and the Events Committee’s renowned canapés. The church is very easy to find, in Church Chase, off Main Road, opposite Meadow Road, and clearly signposted (CM3 8DR). Parking beside the churchyard is available. Over Hall Garden
Garden open at Over Hall, Colne Engaine, by kind permission of Michael and Jane Lambert. A rare chance to explore this wonderful garden, not normally open to the public. There is something for everybody, with formal gardens, walled garden, orchard, wooded walk, vegetable garden and much more. Ample parking. Further details to be announced.
