News stories from the Friends of Essex Churches Trust

Warm applause greeted Dr Rowan Williams (Lord Williams of Oystermouth) after the former Archbishop of Canterbury had delivered the third annual Gepp Lecture for the Friends of Essex Churches Trust at Chelmsford Cathedral in May.

Extolling the virtues of friends of churches organisations, Dr Williams highlighted four of his favourite churches - his home church in Oystermouth, South Wales; a delapidated cinema in Zimbabwe; the rebuilt Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow; and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jersusalem.

Stephen Cottrell, the Bishop of Chelmsford, gave a vote of thanks after Dr Williams had answered questions.
